Hi everyone! This is Kan-chan, hoping everyone is enjoying their summer!
Many Japanese will receive off from work in the middle of August because of Obon, the Buddhist Bon festival. For the Japanese, this period of the year ranks in importance with the New Year holiday, with many people returning to their hometowns and spending time with their families. The days it is observed depend on regions, Bon is from July 13th to 16th or from August 13th to 16th on the lunar calendar.

Hi everyone! This is Kan-chan, back to tell everyone about another feature of summer here in Japan.
According to the Lunar Calendar, today is Doyo no Ushi no hi. In Japan, the day is more colloquially known as Unagi Day, which is a day when people traditionally eat unagi, Japanese for freshwater eel.

Everyone, this is Kan-chan again, just in time to talk about the upcoming summer vacation many Japanese students are about to have. This year in Japan, most students will be going on their long-awaited summer vacation from the 21th of July.
